More Spar Work

With Gardens' first spar (the yard formerly known as the mizzen mast) nearly ready for varnishing, it is time to cut the staves for the main mast.

Tomorrow we will mill the staves to size (on the small table saw), notch the staves (on the router table) and cut the tapers (using a 'custom' jig and hand-held router).

Dry fitting and assembly will have to wait until the "spar table" can be lengthened and outfitted with more supports - probably this weekend.

  1. Bob, I am also building a balanced lug pathfinder yawl. I have found some errors in Johns plans with regards to the mast locations. Have you looked at where the mast is located for the balanced lug yawl? I am trying to lock down a distance for the mast from the forward edge of the stem. Any help would be great, Cheers, Tom

    1. Tom, I have had a couple instances when I mis-read a number/dimension and used an incorrect measurement. Fortunately, those were not difficult to repair. I haven't noticed an issue with the mast placement - but I'll take a closer look at that drawing and let you know what I come up with.

Keep up the good work with your Pathfinder!

      Bob
